My view on the world cup was touched my magic in some important parts of the event. Putting aside my national pride, I think it was entertaining. I think the opening game was a great start to a very close finish. Some teams disappointed me, like Italy, France, and England. The fact is they have the best teams in the world. As far other teams in the competition, I think New Zealand was the surprise to me. Despite they didn’t qualify to the next round, they left South Africa undefeated. To me, that is a great story. However, the group stages came and went like the wind. Some teams were big disappointing but also gave way to newer teams. I was amazed by the South American teams in the beginning stages of the tournament. The African teams were bit down the fact they didn’t use home field. Ghana however showed the stronger side of the continent. Asia did a good part too, Japan did a good roll, and the Koreans showed no fear. The group stages were over and now it was time of the truth. Who would prevail to the next round of the tournament? Spain started to show confidence when they beat Portugal, and Germany blew by England in a shameful matter. Uruguay and Argentina went through with their games. Brazil got past Chile, and Holland went on as well. However, goals make the difference anyways and the winner goes next round. The Quarter finals came and the exit of Argentina was not expected. Apart from national pride, I admit Germany had a great game. Spain got lucky again, with miss penalty of Paraguay. Which the game Brazil lost, and how Uruguay showed the world of football what it means to play with your heart. Holland was the great team waiting to be discovered, Germany was a great football machine, and Spain was the future to be, about Uruguay, two world time champion. (first in 1930, they beat Argentina in final 4-2, the first world cup ever, and in 1950, they upset Brazil by a score of 2-1, in the great final known as the “Maracanaso”) The semifinals were set to be a great ending of the tournament. Spain got pasted Germany, and Holland beat Uruguay in one of my opinions the best game in the world cup. It was incredible the fans how much appreciated the world cup and all its glory. Two lefts teams to play, the great anticipated final. Spain controlled most of the game, when Holland played the physical side of the game. Key saves from Iker Casillas , Spain’s star goalie. The final whistle went on to extra time. Which the score of 0-0, and lots of fouls, made it to some a boring game. I liked it however, meant it was hard fought full of passion match. The key moment in the game was when Iniesta scored passed the Dutch defense. Holland, now a three time world cup finalist, had to go home knowing it was second again. However, they showed great pride by taking their medals of second, which I’m sure was very ironic to some since South Africa used to be Dutch colony. Spain took the throne of the world champs once and for all. The first time for everyone, and I look forward in 4 years down south to Brazil. We say goodbye to the great country of South Africa, that showed the world what mankind can do by hosting the most important event in the event. Thank you. It was a surreal experience. From the “bubuzelas” and the events taking, it was a great success and now I just can’t wait four more years till the next world cup.
